I bet there are some red faces in apple and I imagine they will fix this quickly. You should not need sighted help to turn it back on if you can access a pc with Itunes installed as you can turn voice over on or off through itunes. It's right at the top of the list of options or does this not work in this case?

In all fairness, even IOS has similar issues. Case and point, the
latest update 4.31, several users on the viphone list have reported an
issue where Voice Over suddenly stops working. Even if they have the
triple tap of the home key feature set up to toggle Voice Over on and
off the only thing that seems to work is to have a sighted person go
into hthe settings and turn VO off then reboot and then turn it back
on hence the reason I have not done that update to mine. Bottom line,
there's no one perfect solution, they all have their own issues
especially when it comes to accessibility.

Hi everybody.

Someone has told me, that from the program manager, you can remove the
latest installed update, and the previous one will be replaced again.
Cirtainly this only work's if there is any previous version to get back to.

So give it a try, and see if your problem's can be solved by this action.

you can have a dozen backups but it won't help in this case as you can not roll back to the previous version that is unless you know something I don't.
Once you have updated your nokia phone that is it.

I don't think Eleanor's advice had anything to do with whether someone
has little or no vision. I recommend to people whether they're blind or
sighted that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Unless you're having
trouble or you know there's something you want in an update then don't
bother. If you do want an update then make sure you have a good back up,
know how to reverse the update if you need to and make sure you have the
requisite skills or assistance if things don't go well. Again, this
advice is for the blind and sighted a like.

It is a fact though that with access technology, there is another layer
of complexity on our phones. Whenever I update firmware, a advice driver
or even just an application, I must admit I have some apprehension as to
whether something will change to interfere with my accessibility. I'm
more than willing to work with an access technology vendor or an
application's author to fix something, but sometimes I just want to use
a phone to make a call and don't want to fight an accessibility battle
every time there's an update to an application that appears to be
working just fine the way it is.

This is all just my $0.02. Obviously anyone is able to update their
phone, software and firmware any time they want, but if someone asks my
opinion, whether they're sighted or not, the above is what I'll tell
them. I wouldn't tell someone to just blindly update their phone on the
off chance that there's some little improvement in there that you might
find useful. IMHO, the risks are just too great.

from time to time they add software and make improvements should we just

I think not.

I do not tend to upgrade firmware if all is working fine on the
phone. You might like to take that point up with Nokia Bernard about
the message reader.

Well as the e52 commented on talks and email problems the same is true
following the latest phone firmware update for the e72. I have
checked the
settings and none were altered as part of the update process. The
header
like who the message is from and the subject line are all read but the
main
body of the text is not read. if you use talks long down arrow the
subject
line is read again letter by letter but stil the body of the message
is not
spoken. I tried then to play the message using the nokia message
reader but
no luck their either you would think they would test their own message
reader can read the messages. Now I did not update the email
application
but obviously that update was included. As the nokia message reader
does
not work for email I am hoping they will fix this problem as the email
app
now is totally in accessible. I will try changing font sizes to see if
I
can find a work around. It's things like this make you consider other
platforms I mean the last 2 updates have cause loss in functionality
rather
than an improvement.
