well, in that instance then you ahve benefited from our services without paying
us then, TalkNav pays for the upkeep of this mailing list and as such, you have
received after care, post purchase, without buying from us, but never the less
you have had after care from a Talks dealer. I appreciate that we did not
actually advise you if someone else ont the list did, but we do contribute a
lot to this list in both actual contributions by e-mail, and also though in the
fact that we pay for its existance.

Neil when I paid my £50 transfer fee, I contacted the Talks Dealer by telephone

Dealer and that person had to administer the cost of my payment. I did receive
CDs with information regarding Talks too. All of this did take time and effort
on the part of the dealer, one way and another so I feel I got value for money.
However, I have not needed to follow-up with information seeking re Talks
thanks to this excellent list.

Dave,

The Costs of Operation category you mention gets funded out of something
though, this being cost of doing business, i,e, what I charge you has to cover
every cost and my profit, no matter where I hang the fees associated with being
in business, ultimately the client has to pay for those. and these are
reflected in the cost of products.

I agree with you! When a company processes a credit card sale, the vendor
that is selling you the product has to pay the credit card company a
commission/processing fee. This charge is not visible to the person using
the credit card. Imagine the complaining if it was the credit card user,
not the vendor who had to pay the fee, instead of the company selling you
the product.

Of course, businesses can offset these commission/processing in their
accounts, under the heading "costs of running a business", in the same way
as they do for other expenses which contribute to running any business.

John it is reasonable that there is an administrative charge. Would your
bank carry out an administrative job for you without charging you?

Hi Chris,

I have no problem paying the £150 for the Talks licence itself. I fully
understand the level of resource required by the developers in producing and
marketing the product. It is good value in a very small marketplace. Of
course, that does not take away the fact the blind people have to pay this
extra cost for something everybody else does not need to. That is not a
fault of the development companies, who have to make a living. I guess that
could be viewed as a DLA issue.

Equally, when there is a significant upgrade to Talks I have no problem with
paying for an upgraded licence.

I do, however, find the £50 for a licence transfer an issue.

We have already paid for a licence to use Talks.
The transfer of the licence from one phone to another is required to avoid,
or at least limit, piracy of their software, which is fully understandable .

Talknav do provide a simple and easy means of transferring the licence.

It is done without human intervention, in most cases, and its real on-going
cost to Talknav and Nuance is minimal. The development of the Ap to do that
should not have been a complex task in these days of tools to assist in
"shopping" utilities.

I really think that the price of the transfer should bear some relationship
to the cost of it. After all, we are only paying for the privilege of moving
a licence we have already paid for to another phone, which we have also paid
for by one means or another.

I really do believe that in the fully automated world we live in that this
fee should be reduced.
Clearly, I do not know if the level of the fee is set by Nuance or the
dealership network.

Hello all.
Just had an e-mail privately from someone offering 50% off my next Talks
license. No thanks, I will get it from www.talknav.com. I don't mind paying
the £50 but I do mind being involved in what could be a scam. So please do
the same guys. Not knocking anybody here but you just never know. There are
dodgy people in this world who will do anything with your money. So go for
the real deal please. Use www.talknav.com and you will get your license
within minutes, 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.
Take care.
