John,

you've made this point to me privately and I was very open and honest with you,
and it now saddens to see you post this comment here.

so in response I shall reiterate what I told you.

£50 not only includes the cost to us as a dealer to actually providing the
software from Nuance, i.e. they charge us a license fee we have to build into
what we charge an end user but the following things also get thrown in.

The biggest is support, virtually no user goes through an upgrade or change of
phone without a phone call, often two, if not a phone call then several
e-mails... so we have to have people ready to answer those calls, reply to
those e-mails. those people sit in offices, these offices are heated, lit, kept
clean, insurance paid, taxes paid, salaries paid etc. then we have the phone
system, the e-mail and hosting services etc. then we have to build in the cost
of the card processing etc. then once the client has decided to buy, they then
usually need a phone call or two to help with installing and configuring talks
etc. all this is man hours, and we as you will have noticed do not have staff
sitting in some call centre on the other side of the planet, no, we employ
local, highly skilled individuals who know these products backwards.

beyond this, the £50 element that goes to Nuance also allows for them to keep
their development going all the time, maintain the dealer network, keep patents
and other such licensing and copy right issues under control etc, etc.

all in all, I do not mind saying that we take home about £5 profit from a
transfer, if that, if the user makes more than the average requirements on our
support service then you know what, this is out the window and we ride that
cost.

I do not believe £5 outrageous or unfair, and I'm sorry if you do, this is the
second time I have gone to quite notable lengths to explain this to you, and
frankly it now irritates me to have to do it again.

Hi Chris,

I have no problem paying the £150 for the Talks licence itself. I fully
understand the level of resource required by the developers in producing and
marketing the product. It is good value in a very small marketplace. Of
course, that does not take away the fact the blind people have to pay this
extra cost for something everybody else does not need to. That is not a
fault of the development companies, who have to make a living. I guess that
could be viewed as a DLA issue.

Equally, when there is a significant upgrade to Talks I have no problem with
paying for an upgraded licence.

I do, however, find the £50 for a licence transfer an issue.

We have already paid for a licence to use Talks.
The transfer of the licence from one phone to another is required to avoid,
or at least limit, piracy of their software, which is fully understandable .

Talknav do provide a simple and easy means of transferring the licence.

It is done without human intervention, in most cases, and its real on-going
cost to Talknav and Nuance is minimal. The development of the Ap to do that
should not have been a complex task in these days of tools to assist in
"shopping" utilities.

I really think that the price of the transfer should bear some relationship
to the cost of it. After all, we are only paying for the privilege of moving
a licence we have already paid for to another phone, which we have also paid
for by one means or another.

I really do believe that in the fully automated world we live in that this
fee should be reduced.
Clearly, I do not know if the level of the fee is set by Nuance or the
dealership network.

Hello all.
Just had an e-mail privately from someone offering 50% off my next Talks
license. No thanks, I will get it from www.talknav.com. I don't mind paying
the £50 but I do mind being involved in what could be a scam. So please do
the same guys. Not knocking anybody here but you just never know. There are
dodgy people in this world who will do anything with your money. So go for
the real deal please. Use www.talknav.com and you will get your license
within minutes, 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.
Take care.
