Stephen and all,

I have successfully updated the Nokia C5 firmware. However, it has made no
difference to PC Sync, still getting the message: connected phone is not
supported by PC sync.

It has recommended that I go to help and reinstall PC Suite Support for SMS/MMS. However, when I go to help in PC Suite it states that support for SMS/MMS is not available.

Does any of this make sense?

Louis

No updating your phones firmware will not hurt you trial code. However in
saying that, i would still go into the Talks settings, options, register,
then manual registration and then arrow to the serial number at the bottom
of the list and write it down. You may need to turn off t9 so you can
arrow throu the 16 character code one character at a time to write it
down.

Stephen,

I downloaded the Nokia update tool and installed it on my computer. I
haven't updated the firmware on my phone though.

I am able to sync my Nokia N73, however, when I select the nokia C5 it
responds with:

"The connected phone is not supported by PC sync"

If I update the firmware will it have any affect on my 10-day talks
license?
My C5 is running:

Software manager Version 032.010 software version date July 17 2010
custom
version 032.010.246.01 custom version date august 11 2010

Please try downloading and install the Nokia Software update tool on your
comptuer. This will load the latest PC Suite drivers. Then try restarting
your computer and using it with PC Suite to see if that make any
difference.

You can get the current copy of the Nokia Software updater from the blind
sea web site under the 3rd Edition software link.

Hi Stephen and Anders,

Thanks for the suggestions. I eventually used sited assistance over the
weekend to install Talks. For some reason, which I haven't figured out
yet, PC Suite is finding it a problem to carry out tasks on my phone,.
I
have already reinstalled version 7 - the last version known to be
accessible with Jaws - which I downloaded from the Blind Sea website.

I am unable to back up or transfer calendar entries, messages and
contacts. I can transfer files when in Mass Storage mode. It is baffling
me. I will look into it a little more over the next few days.

Thanks once again though, your help is always appreciated

Louis

Hi!
When i didn't had sighted assistance i installed an older version of
talks so i could set the time and date properly.
I know this isn't needed but i did that anyway and it worked.

Stephen,

I am not sure what the time and date are on the phone. I can get
someone to check it later on this evening. I will give the rest of it
a
go in the mean time.

Thanks

Louis

Do you have the date and time set on the phone?
Are you able to connect to the PC with the phone using PC Suite mode?
Are you able to see the phone in the Nokia phone browser on the PC?
Make sure that your phone keypad isn't locked! This can be done by
press any of the numbers to see if you get a touch tone or not. If
you
get a touch tone, then press the End-call buttn to clear the screen.

If the answer is YES for all the above, then just arrow to the
Talks*.SISX file and press enter on your computer.
Answer YES to the PC Suite question about sending the file to your
phone.
Now on your phone, start pressing SoftKey1 top left button every 5
seconds. Do this 9 times.
Now wait and Talks should come up talking with the Nokia TTS after
about 30 or so seconds.

At this point, you can go back to your PC and install the TTS that
you
want and Talks iwll read the install screens for ou on the phone.

Hi Stephen and others,

Can you advise the best way to install talks without sited
assistance. I have the latest talks downloaded and unzipped onto my
computer, and am trying to install it onto a new Nokia C5.

All advice appreciated

Louis

No a blind person can install Talks on there own. Sighted help
isn't
needed but can help. There is a reason for having no talking
installer initially! There is no TTS for Talks on the phone and
there is no drivers between the installer program and any TTS that
may be on the phone. So at this time, there isn't any talking
installer for the Nokia phones for very first time users. After you
get Talks installed then you can leave Talks up and running to
install later upgrades for it.

Now to yor license code. You need to type in all 16 characters
without the dashes. You also need to make sure that the date is
correct on your phone. You also need to make sure that the license
number that you are typing in is for the phone that is was
generated
for. Another words, each license code generated is for that phone
and no other. So one license code for as a example: lets say my N95
dash 3 red will not work on my N95 dash 3 red spare one. Exact same
model but different IMEI numbers.

Now as a extra note about license codes. The time on the license
code starts from the minute you generate it and not from the minute
that you enter it into the phone. So lets say you have a 30 day
trial code but you wait 7 days to type it in your phone after you
got it. Well at that point, you would only have 23 days left on it.
It isn't Nuances issue if you didn't type it in write away and
start
using it.

So please try entering your license code again without the dashes.
Then may sure that you turn on Phonetic spelling on your computer
and go over the code 1 character at a time. Some times, I have
trouble hearing the difference between each of the characters and
by
doing it this away I'm certain of what was entered. Then before I
press the OK button on the phone, I use the left arrow and go all
the way over to the left to the first character and then do the
same
on the PC and compare them 1 at a time to make sure there are no
errors.
