Thanks for your valuable thoughts, Kevin! (Don't you want to share
them on the wiki in order to help new users to better understand OSM?)

I have to admit that the proposal process and the tagging discussions
are sometimes frustrating, and it's certainly not my intent to prevent
others from developing and using new tags. However, it is my
impression that the wiki already is quite confusing and people often
don't read it. Because tags are also often not self-explanatory, this
unfortunately results in tags loosing its meaning. I'm worrying that
this gets worse.

Perhaps it would help though, if the status on the wiki page were more
clear and prominent – maybe a different page colour and a status of
'informal' instead of 'in use' for those non-standard tags.
