According to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:man_made%3Dadit the tag "depth" should be used for the length of an adit (horizontal mine entrance). According to wiki discussion, people seem to agree that "length" is a better tag for this, as "depth" is used to indicate how deep (vertically) something is.
