I like it too, but I propose another landuse value: vegetation.
Vegetation is a general term used for plants, without reference to
species etc, which could be further specified:
For example
landcover=vegetation
vegetation=pine
or
landcover=vegetation
vegetation=grass
vegetation=bushes
vegetation=...
This would enable a more detailed description of a forest, for example.
