Thanks for starting this article. You write that the wikipedia article
is horrible, but I don't agree, IMHO it's not bad.
They start with "A brand is the identity of a specific product,
service, or business" and say that registered brands are trademarks,
both valid characterizations IMHO.

Your text says: "The brand is a larger entity that a place advertises
itself as part of."

This is IMHO not correct. Take automotive. A car seller doesn't
advertise himself to be part of say Ford. He simply sells Ford cars
(in accordance with Ford).

I suggest to put: "Use brand to refer to a brand. Brands are
identities of a specific product, service, or business and are often
registered as trademarks."

The rest could be clear from the examples.
