Agreed, the opposite could be used, or as you say to 'manipulate'.

The idea of sound design that evokes an emotional response, like music, is
surely what these artistic endeavours are trying to achieve.
Countless films, and composers have capitalised on it for years.
Surely there are many studies on emotional responses, that could encompass
this specific subset?
Not sure its being 'woke', or that it has much to do with sursound.
Just sounds like an ear catching PHD to grab funds...
