Sampo Syreeni wrote but the real treat is the companion document at http://wiki.xiph.org/Channel_mapping_examples where I mapped just about every format in existence to what we came up with in channel semantics.
Do take a look at it and disseminate the work if right. Well it looks "right to me", and thanks Sampo for all that work :-) Lot's of great work -thanks. But as to formats that are, IMO, "missing" What do you think re :- Double MS, Schoeps call this DMS. I call it MSR. But it's Main Side Rear, [or Front /Back & the difference between L&R] ) but anyway a 3 chan format consisting a forward & rear facing (cardioid or Hypercardioid) + a L/R facing "S" or L/R difference chan /Fig 8. Now this can be really easily be converted to Horizontal B format [W X Y] Now I don't use "discrete" Horizontal B format (ie 2 probably cardioide mics + a Fig 8) but it may be worth including, too.
