I'm subscribed to several high volume mail lists.
Although the lists maintain archives it is often more useful and/or
convenient to access copies on my local machine.

In SeaMonkey's Help system I've just RE-discovered a Tip under
"Searching for Specific Messages"
To search for messages that contain a header not listed in the first drop-down menu
(for example, if you want to search for messages that include the header
Resent-From), choose Customize and type the header you want to search for.
SeaMonkey Mail & Newsgroups adds your custom header to the drop-down list, so
you can then choose it to search for matching entries. Make sure you enter the
custom header correctly, since Mail will only find entries that exactly match what
you type.
In my case I use "References" instead of "Resent-From".
Using the "Search Messages" item on the drop-down menu WILL retrieve all
messages with the specified Reference.
*HOWEVER* the list format of "Search Messages" can be inconvenient.
Using View: -> Custom Views I find a more user friendly -- I frequently
mark them as unread &/or flagged and then view a "predefined view" to
see which of the messages fit in a wider context.

My question:
The current View: has 6 entries in 3 'groups'.
The second groups contains "Tags" and "Custom Views"
I'd find a 3rd entry "Custom Transient View".
It would launch a entry screen very similar to "Message View Setup".
The special feature would be the volatility of the entered specifications.
A typical usage would be to display ONLY messages from a specific
sub-thread.
On the occasion that sub-thread turned out to be too broad, one would
add an additional constraint e.g. a date range.
Is this feasible enough to be a reasonable wish-list item?
Does it already exist somehow?
TIA
