It's not possible to use a single profile for both versions together. If you share the profile, every time you change version of SM the profile will be updated and you'll have problems with your bookmarks. First, you should duplicate your profile. Then, you should force the browser to always ask for the profile at startup. Only then, it's safe to install the new version, but remember to always be careful to open the right profile.
