Hi stellarium devs!

I am a newcomer to stellarium, but in my short time using it have
found it an incredibly useful aid to amateur astronomy.

One thing that I noticed was missing was the LogBook plugin. This
would be a useful addition to the program. My needs are simpler than
the ambition for the LogBook. I mostly need something that I can keep
track of what I have observed and when (with accompanying notes), but
the more flexibility the better, of course. The case for keeping logs
inside instead of outside of Stellarium is that, at least in theory, I
can link my observations to the objects in the celestial database(s).

Looking at the wiki and old forum posts it appears the current plugin
is not included in the standard binary (at least on Ubuntu 11.10).
This prompted a few questions:

1/ Is the LogBook usable in its present state? If not, what is missing?
2/ How do I build the plugin. I built stellarium from bzr trunk, but
noticed that the LogBook plugin and a couple of others are not built
by default. I assume this is just a matter of specifying some flags
for cmake/make
3/ Would it be useful to the project for me to contribute some code to
that plugin? I haven't used Qt before, but I do have experience with
C++, various versions of SQL, and other GUI toolkits (Gtk+,
wxWidgets). There will be a learning curve, but not insurmountable I
think.

Thanks,
dm
