Even though they aren’t “officially” rated walls generally speaking any drywall wall is going to meet the 30 minutes for light hazard, the opening protective maybe doesn’t, but in that case you can move down to exception 2 and calculate a couple heads in the communicating space, which drops you to like 4 heads, and probably becomes a less demanding area than a reduced remote area elsewhere and can be ignored. That would be my thought anyway.

The vestibule is separated from the interior by walls and doors, but they are not fire rated (so it would not meet separation requirements for a Room Design approach per 13, 2016 ed 11.2.3.3). The vestibule has sprinklers at its high ceiling level. Is the unrated wall enough of a separation (draft curtain) between the ceiling levels to allow for a QR reduction in the area/density calc for the main floor? Would it be required to use a 1500sf operating area under the vestibule without regard to the walls? Thanks! Matt Grise This message is for the named person's use only.
