Thanks guys! I could have provided a little more detail and saved some trouble.
I'm not bidding the job, was just asking to see if anybody had a "general rule
of thumb" for a quick guesstimate. Nothing formal, nothing in writing to haunt
me later, just a very rough idea. I appreciate the feedback though.

Thank you,

I tried not to respond since the word "Cost" was mentioned, but I like Brian.

Brian, in this day and time, do not provide anything beyond the hard
information before you. Of course, your relationship to the GC in question is
imparative. But I think based on the question, this might be a "street" price,
and not negotiated.

If you do, be specific. Budget Price is for 1000gpm@100psi, horizontal split
case pump. Tank is 40k volume. Sizes beyond or below stated, must be addressed
as change to provided contract price.

As others have mentioned, you are setting yourself up to be the "fall guy"
otherwise.

Just my "cost" of .01 cent.

Matt

This is probably a touchy subject, but the correct answer is just not to give
one. There are so many variables between pump size, motor type, total water
demand, tank material, etc. that any "ballpark" would be worthless without a
pile of RFIs.

Ballparks are just traps so the GC can tell the owner that it's your fault when
the actual price is massively higher after the full scope of trades costs are
included. Just exclude fire pumps and water tanks unless specifically
identified by the design documents if it is a bid project.

My 2 cents at-least.

Curious what most people do when bidding a project that may or may not need a
pump and tank and the GC just wants a "ballpark" adder. Is there a quick
general rule, say dollars/per gallon for the tank, or do you get actual quotes
