It separates the air portion of the dry system from the water portion of the
dry system in the dry valve trim. Loss of air pressure will allow the water
pressure to overcome the force of the differential dry seat allowing water to
run through the actuator which in turn allows the dry valve to trip. Simplified
a bit but that’s the general premise.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Dry valve actuator

What is the purpose of an actuator on a dry valve I've come across so many out
of service are they really that difficult to clean out and put back in service?
Having a hard time finding info on how to clean them out and put back in
service.
