I have found that piping the discharge back to the tank allows for a discharge nozzle with pitot to be inside the tank and right at the manhole cover, this satisfies the requirement to have a secondary means of testing other than a meter in a bypass loop. There is then no need to run a line out to the building edge and then running multiple hoses for each flow test. This saves time and money on each 3rd year fire pump full flow test. I have done this on many projects, and it is a much less expensive option. Most jurisdictions here in Washington state only require discharge water to be treated if it will run outside into the storm drains thus piping back to the tank alleviates this requirement since the water will be captured and not run outside.

As you may imagine the already high cost of a fire pump was increased by this requirement. sincerely, Ken Wagoner, SET Parsley Consulting 500 West Mechanic Street Harrisonville, Missouri 64701-2235 Phone: (760) 745-6181 Visit the website<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fwww.parsleyconsulting.com%2f&c=E,1,Y5zKJKPEh1mBEBqSR-VE9cUKl5y-eyP8BpvmE_5j9ZqW2eJbNphYzrCMBZ-2YuX6d-RRkHI4gQ1FV-cvOeCfRC58uZS9NiToZv2mx7909oCqLvCW_n5hDHeK&typo=1> On 9/25/2024 8:43 AM, Hinson, Ryan wrote: Not per NFPA 20.
