If the duct cannot be claimed to be supporting the pipe, and the temps are
within operational range, then I do not know of any reason it cannot be done.

Was a party to it many, many years ago when I held a wrench. Have even cut a
hole or 2 previously and passed thu the duct.

I have seen this many times where a Sprinkler Pipe passes thru duct work.
Primarily on existing older projects, Installed before I started designing 30
plus years ago.
Is this practiced allowed? I don't find any reference to it in NFPA 13.

This just happened over the weekend when duct work came through a wall and
instead of offsetting down to get past an existing sprinkler branch line pipe
the duct maintained elevation and was installed around the pipe.
