New clearance requirements in ASCE 7 make it much harder to undertake methinks,
but I imagine that if you were able to create the required clearances that it
could still be done. (FTR, I don't think that the seismic clearances apply if
you're in a region that doesn't require seismic engineering.) We used to
coordinate a round metal sleeve that would be fabricated and installed by the
HVAC contractor, and then we'd just run through that. The MEOR should
calculate the additional friction loss imparted by the sleeve in the middle of
the flow, to assure that all the boxes are checked regarding airflow volume,
noise, etc.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Sprinkler Pipe passing through HVAC tin work

I have seen this many times where a Sprinkler Pipe passes thru duct work.
Primarily on existing older projects, Installed before I started designing 30
plus years ago.
Is this practiced allowed? I don't find any reference to it in NFPA 13.

This just happened over the weekend when duct work came through a wall and
instead of offsetting down to get past an existing sprinkler branch line pipe
the duct maintained elevation and was installed around the pipe.
