What is "bayes_file_mode" set to? By default it's 0700.
It's not set to anything, so it should be the default. It had been set to 0644. I will reset all the files to 0700 and see if that makes any difference.
What is odd is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when the file gets changed to ---------- perms
