Hmm... this might actually make sense, from a user-education point of view.
One of the keys for spam's success is it makes money.  If we all relay spam,
but tag it with user-readable information to the effect of "this is an
example of spam - if you use the advertised product, you're contributing to
an internet plague", it could do more damage to spammers than simply closing
our relays.

If we close our relays, the spammer will go find some cable modem box with
an unpatched vulnerability and route spam through that.  If we intercept and
alter his spam, they might lose a customer.

Just a crazy idea - don't take it seriously, of course. ;)
