Your ISP has an smtp server no?

That is the smarthost.

Under sendmail you would define your smarthost via:
define(`SMART_HOST',`<smptservernamehere>')

Replace <smptservernamehere> with the name of your ISP's smtp server.

Then create you sendmail.cf from from the mc file.

I'm not sure how to do it under other mail software.

What this does is tells your SMTP server to relay all messages through
your ISPs mail server.
