there's a set of 2.60 files there -- but now that I look at the page, the
dates on them are earlier than either rc3 or rc4.

Don't know what's up with that, but as far as I can tell Gentoo is picking up
Mail-SpamAssassin-2.60.tar.gz, which may be the problem right there.
