the --lint option will show you any syntactic complaints SA has while trying to parse the rule file..


For example if you typo "whitlist_from [EMAIL PROTECTED]" instead of whitelist_from, you'll get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] .spamassassin]$ spamassassin --lint
Failed to parse line in SpamAssassin configuration, skipping: whitlist_from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
