| I'm using a DSL line on my email server. Which is part of my ISP's static
| DSL pool. I don't send thru my ISP's mail server. I'm starting to see the
| error in this now. In my mind I had somehow split the difference of HOME DSL
| and BUSINESS DSL. I always agreed that HOME DSL users should always send
| thru their ISP's mail server, but figured BUSINESS DSL didn't have to.
|

You may find AOL, MSN, Earthlink, et al will be blocking mail originating
from DSL based servers. I believe AOL has already started.

I've heard rumblings of DSL mailer admins needing to request being
whitelisted with AOL.

Greg

Subject: [SAtalk] (OT) DSL/DIALUP manual BL Catch 22

| I started to take a look at blocking dialup and dsl IPs. I don't use an RBL
| for this, and I have my reasons. So I want to handle the BL myself in my
| access list. (Yeah I hear you grumbling!)
|
| I was looking at spam IPs, checking them in ARIN, and writing down the
| blocks to block. I started to think about the consequences of blocking a
| range of IPs. Then I realised my own email server would be blocked by this
| method! *eek*

|
| I've never been blocked.....yet. But an admin with good intentions like my
| own could. So I'm somewhat in a quandry. Does anyone block IP ranges
| manually? Should I focus on using my ISP's email gateway?
|
| Sorry this isn't SA related. But is spam related.
