The first thing to check is whether or not your Red Hat installation is using procmail to deliver mail to your inbox. If it is, you should just be able to add a call to spamassassin (or spamc, if you're running spamd) to your .procmailrc file. You shouldn't need to do any configuring of SpamAssassin immediately - the defaults are fine to start off with. Once you've got some experience of using it, you may want to make some tweaks, but it really isn't that difficult to edit the text files. And I'm sure no one would mind if you asked here.
