Of the Red Hat releases 6.2 was the best they ever had.

Duncan makes available his ports to stable.  Put this in your Debian
sources.list file and you will see current versions of Spamassassin
backported to stable.

  deb http://people.debian.org/~duncf/debian/ stable main

This should also work on 'testing' or 'unstable' too, although I have
not tried that, but of course on Debian new packages go into
'unstable' directly so you would not need any backporting there and
shouldn't need any special sources.list backport entries.
