Tried giving the full path to spamc, suing to different users, etc. No difference. To tell the truth, I wouldn't expect to have to restart spamd, either. That way, if there were user preferences on my site, every time a user preference got changed, spamd would have to be restarted. Moreover, the changes get effected instantly whenever spam c.q. ham comes in via smtp, without having to restart spamd. So this will remain one of life's great mysteries ;) I'm happy with things as they are: spamassassin -t < porn.txt and MM's SA-Exim 2.2 + SA 2.50. Thanks anyway.
