Mike,

I must agree with you, I think that is a better way.

Thanks.

Subject: [SAtalk] Exim and Spamassassin - how to drop spam?

Exim & Spamassassin... I'm almost there, but ...

I have both these applications working to the point that spam is
being detected and marked as such in the mail header. However, I'm
not sure how to get exim to drop these email, and then send an email
to the sender informing them they *may* have spammed. I would like
this to be a system-wide filter, but I'm don't what it should be or
where it should go.
Could you point me in the right direction?

Hrm...why on earth would you do that? You're dropping the spam, but sending a message that says that they may have been spammed? That doesn't make any sense. What if it wasn't spam and they want to retrieve the message?

As has been discussed many times before, dropping spam is a risky proposition at best, who knows what might have accidentally been marked as spam. At the very least, install SA and test it before implementing such policies. IMO, tagging is a much better idea. Let the users filter their mail based on the tag.
As for sending a message indicating that they may be spammed...why waste the bandwidth? Especialy since you've already dropped the message!
