As for modifying SA, I have already done it, (at least initially). I
just want help to modify it to allow the parameters to be in a central
config file.

A rule that says this "**************" and not "******" means that I
need one for everything in between? The stars are also in the header,
for GroupWise, this is generally hidden - you have to really want to see
them. I don't know of a way to put the stars in the subject (and even if
I did, a hit rate of 20 or greater gets a little much). So, a simple
worded rating is probably best.

The coding change is simple. Not a big deal at all. But, as an option,
where you can change the rating level, and the wording, why not? If you
don't like "maybe", then use "perhaps" or "could be dude!" or whatever.
But there could be a switch to enable, disable it. And disabled could be
on by default.

And you don't think my help desk won't be setting up rule for a lot of
them? Think again!

And the terms of agreement (on the disclaimer). I work for a law firm.
I am required by my boss to post that on all outgoing messages. So, take
that additional information accordingly.

I am just trying to get in the water here with my users. Any aid to
help them avoid some of this useless crap called spam. It is, in my
mind, something to get them into the idea. But, with this kind of
system, by using a sliding rating system, I can change the hit
threshold, and it will still work for the user with no rule
modifications. So, I can start with a high (or a low) threshold, and
then move it, and the users won't know the difference.

Really? Good lord. That's awful.

Does it allow you to specify a rule like 'header contains "*****" AND
header does not contain "**********"'? That would work.

Slightly annoying, admittedly. You'd have to decide if it's more work
to
modify SpamAssassin or enter longer rules in GroupWise.

I bet most people could understand "messages with ten stars are more
likely to be spam than messages with three stars", or an explanation
like
that.

I agree there would probably be a few that couldn't even handle that,
but
in my experience those people probably couldn't handle setting up any
kind of mail rule, either, so it won't matter much (i.e., you'll have
to
do it for them anyway).

Only the person setting up the rule needs to understand the numbers.
The
person using the computer doesn't need to know there are numbers
involved
-- messages just get filed into their folders like "possibly spam",
"definitely spam", etc.

Ugh. I hereby reject these terms. Now what? :-)
