Here's how I deal with this sort of thing:

1) I use spamassassin via mailscanner, and I'm unfamiliar with other ways
to use spam assassin, but basically I get a header that says it's not spam
or I get the spam assassin scores.

2) I use procmail to sort off of that header. If it starts "SpamAssassin"
or "ORDB-RBL", then it gets funneled into my "Spamcan" folder.

3) for mailing lists where I might get many false-positives (yahoo lists,
for example*), I put those procmail rules earlier in my procmailrc than the
Spamcan rule. So, they get sorted into my folder for that mailing list
before procmail decides whether or not it goes in the Spamcan.

It is possible that if someone spams one of those lists I'll get it anyway,
but for the lists I'm on, that almost never happens. It's not worth
worrying about for me.

(* note: the default "whitelist" file says that the "subscription required"
lists at yahoo are from yahoo-inc.com ... which is wrong, they're from
groups.yahoo.com ... yahoo-inc is exactly where their spam comes from. I
basically wound up commenting out EVERY entry that default file because I'
ve had spam come from all of them .... but their subscription groups can
have spam fingerprints because they have adverts at the bottom if it's a
free list, so I basically ignore their spam scores by filtering in the
order I do)
