I've been tasked with creating an antispam/antivirus box to be placed in
front of our mailserver. The goal is to have the box act as primary MX,
scan messages (antivirus, spamassassin, and DCC), deliver "grey" mail to
a local mailbox/maildir, and relay all good mail to the main
mailserver. Users will be able to login to the box to setup their user
preferences/thresholds/blacklists/whitelists and check their "greybox"
of caught mail. Essentially, I would like to create my own Postini
(postini.com). What do you guys recommend as the base MTA - I've seen
posts from several people regarding qmail/qscanner setups and have
noticed some exim setups in the mix as well. Does anyone have
experience with both and want to comment on their strengths and
weaknesses?

Interesting note and slightly off topic: I've spoken with Postini about
their services and they actually use a smtp proxy of sorts -- when a MTA
initiates a session with their machine and sends the RCPT, they open a
connection to the destination mailserver, scan the message, and send it
through.

Thanks,

Nick
