Get a good herb book or several, like the 2 volume set "Energetics of Western Herbs", by Peter Holmes. It describes in great detail the different classes of herbs according to action and Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, and includes lots of "weeds" like Dandelions, native American plants, and Chinese medicinals brought here for ornamental purposes. Then you won't think it is possible to get rid of medicinal herbs; if you can't get one then there are lots of others with similar actions.

If the bans in Europe are anything to go by, and I think they are, medicinal herbs will be banned sooner or later. There are many articles about the ban starting in Europe in April 2011. Time to start collecting heirloom seeds and grow your own when and where possible.
