Same problem with any new vinyl product. Cars, waterbeds, raincoats, etc. Other plastics may contain chemicals such as BPA, or leach plasticizer into food or drinking water. It is important to know which plastics are harmful, and to avoid them. I have stopped using dw jugs made from HDPE. They leaves a bad plasticizer taste in the water. PETE jugs leave no taste at all.
