Your reasoning for purity /  public defecation etc. hold true for very
many cultures where there is high contention for a few resources.
If you put 10 people on a desert island, and leave them with few
resources they will be exhibiting such behavior rather soon.
I doubt whether there is anything 'hindu' in it.
