Positive change is not impossible. The conflict in Northern Ireland
may finally be ending after decades of religious violence
there. Britain did finally leave India. Slavery went from being nearly
universal for millennia to becoming nearly universally illegitimate
over the course of just about one century.

However, I agree that in most such instances, a betting man will make
more money if he assumes the worst.
