Keep in mind that a lot of people these days want to run their own
companies, and hence, they want to generate as much seed capital as
possible. If you come from that angle, it isn't worth bothering about
your reputation in the job market, because you are going to be out of
it
in a few years.
If someone isn't reliable when accepting an employment offer, why
should they be expected to be any more reliable when performing other
contracts? With that said, I believe the custom of "two weeks", and
two weeks only, has had quite a bit to do with Silicon Valley's
success. Being flexible is distinct from burning bridges.
