A lot has to do with the encoding method you choose. Are you using
"copyrect hextile" or something else? If the former, you may want to t
Am I correct in thinking that all that's necessary to run tightvnc with
local cursor enabled is to run:
vncviewer -enc "richcursor copyrect"
or do I need to specify "tight" as one of the encodings, as well?

I suppose it depends on what you're send

I did. It didn't do anything. The problem doesn't seem to be xauth. It
seems to be some sort of failure to connect to the socket, but I'm not
sure why.

CodeGnome Consulting,
When I save a connection with TridiaVNC, and then try to launch it again,
I get the following error:
Invalid VNC server specified.
along with a lot of usage info. Has anyone else run into this? Is there a
simple workaround?

both client and server are limited to 128kbps upstream) but tolerable.
I'd *really* recommend moderate zlib or tight compression, if this bothers
your users.

Personally, I think the AT&T binaries are easy enough to install, but then
I'm not a typical end-user. *shrug* Any benefit is strictly in the eye of
the end-user. Your mileage may vary.

or less, use tight encoding if you
can. At 128K (ADSL or ISDN), tight encoding or heavy zlib compression can
still help, but you start trading off with latency. At higher speeds, you
probably will want to minimize zlib compression and use hextile, since
latency will become more obvious.

source.
I just checked the source, and it looks like both parameters take values
between 0 and 9. I'll play with them a bit to see where the tradeoffs are.
Thanks again. :)

I disable compression for the ssh tunnel, or leave it alone?

I read the X viewer docs, but couldn't find an explaination for the
-compresslevel and -quality options. In addition, I didn't understand the
implications of using owncmap; does using it reduce network traffic, or
does it have some other purpose altogether?

, why am I not
forwarding 5901 on foo to 5901 on localhost? Doing so doesn't work (I keep
making that mistake) but sending localhost:5901 to foo:5901 does the job
properly.
Please enlighten me.

Ask your network administrator if your office is using a firewall or
"private" IP addressing.

Does tight encoding make any sense over a 128 Kbps ssh connection?
