I don't know if it's been discussed or not. Personally, though, I would
make use of a greyscale encoding if one were available, although you may
then get into issues of what kind of bit-depth people want. Is 32 shades
of gray enough? Or 16? Or 256?

In the end, though, what it would come down to is someone actually writing
the code to do this. Maybe this will scratch someone's itch one of these
days.
