Is there an OS X version of VNC planned? I know I can now use Xfree86 to
run Unix apps remotely and I can ssh in to my box to do system stuff, but
there's still no way of which I'm aware to use actual Mac apps, ie
Classic, Carbon, or Cocoa remotely.

What about having a "partial screen refresh" option? The interface would
have to have an escape key combination combined with mouse dragging that
would allow the client to select a portion of the screen, which would then
be refreshed. That should ameliorate the UDP unreliability "missing patch"
Hello all,

I try to connect from a linux box (Suse7.1, kernel 2.2.18, to a win9x

I used to have this problem, but I recently installed some patches to my
Solaris machine (to allow Java to run, but that's another story) and now I
can start vncserver without having to run a script to set the permissions on
the .X11* directory. I think it's because the permissions are maintained
Hello,
I have set up a WinVNC-Server on Windows2K in a german language
environment. The clients, that I use, also run german Windows2K. As long
as I use the VNCviewer for Windows everything is fine. But when I
connect using a Java-capable browser (e.i. Internet Explorer 5.5) the

Try using TightVNC. It has an option to notify if someone is trying to
connect. It lets you set whether you want the default to auto connect if
no response or auto reject if no response. It really works nice. A
dialogue box pops up informing you that someone is attempting to connect

We had some unusual problems when running a vncserver on Solaris that
included blank screens, and failure to start a vncserver.
The problem is fixed by changing the permissions on some files in the tmp

If close option is not enable the -kill or -remove are not running, so it's
not possible to upgrade directly if this option is activated so it is not
good to disable this close option for upgrade to next versions

It seems that the best choice could be to enable only :
Poll foreground window
Poll windows under cursor
And absolutely nor enabled:
Poll full screen (very heavy process)
Pol console windows only (very heavy process)
Poll on event received only (very poor refresh and screen refresh bugs)

Does anybody know about VNC code that make VNC only show a single
application, and not the whole Desktop?
Thanks

What have you got the "poll" options set to in the server properties?? I've
found that processor use increases if you have "Poll full screen" set rather
than "Poll foreground window", but some apps don't update properly with
"poll foreground window"

We do public opinion surveys and use VNC to monitor the surveyor to make
sure their work is accurate. We had switched from M'soft SMS to VNC because
SMS was way too slow. We did that several years ago when our primary

I'm surprised you managed to get xfs to star
