Tony, can't you just write a shutdown bat file
I have VNC Server running on my Linux firewall and it appears to work the
way I sort of want it to. I can use it so that I can jump from there to my
internal machines on my network. however, I can not use it so far to view
what is on the desktop that I would see if I turn on the monitor. I a
Hi,
This is my first time working with VNC.
Just got it working.
I got VNC hosted on a Linux server, with mapped aliases to a network of SUN
machines, and my pc is an NT machine.
And I need to know where the tips and tricks are.
Could someone reply with a link, white page, anything.

I know this is an old problem (judging by the archives), and the party

I am running vncservers from Mandrake 8 (linux 2.4
kernel) I am also running windows98 from within Linux
using win4lin server edition. I then have the remote
clients vnc into linux...and then run their windows
from there. This gives a huge speed increase than
doing wondows to windows vnc.

No, I don't think spending 200 bucks a crack is the solution.
If I get a chance I will fix it myself, it can't be that hard to ignore the
shutdown message.
VNC should be the last service to shutdown, or at least shutdown before any
running apps.

Hi Steve,
But what happens if you need to see the error messages that may pop up from
other apps like Lotus Domonio server?
Because everything is getting shut down non gracefully those messages may
not be in the log of the particular app.
PC Anywhere does not respond to the windows shutdown messag
Hey Tony,
I experienced the same, but have a workaround. If you need to reboot through
vnc the winnt resource kit has a shutgui.exe and a shutdown.exe. If you
schedule a shutdown in five minutes, then disconnect. And reconnect back in
10 minutes. The system is rebooted. This winvnc shutdown probl
I think there was mention of a vnc-secure project on this list sometime
earlier. Also, although I've only seen 1 press release, TridiaVNC appears
to be planning a "TridiaVNC Pro" product for later this year, which
according to said press release will incorporate crypto of some sort.

I think someone mentioned this at one point but I wanted to ask this...
I run all my machines at 1024x768... so when I VNC from one machine to

If you search through this mailing list archive, some months ago I wrote a
brief howto on getting Zebedee to work with Win32. It's a bit dated now, as
multiple revisions of both VNC and Zebedee have come up, but I think the
principals still apply. BTW, for me at least, using Zebedee's default

Does anyone know if there are plans to correct the win32 VNC service

If you did not know it shuts down before any other application or service,
so If another service or app brings up a dialog your server will never
reboot.
This is a serious problem and needs to be addressed by the VNC de

As far as I'm aware, that should happen for ChromiVNC Server.
I have to admit that I've never tried this (since I don't go near any form
of Windows OS as a general rule), but provided that the viewer

I run VNC through vtun (sorry - linux only) and ssh. Never had any
problems once the routing and/or port forwarding was set up.
What exactly were your problems? And what is unique about your
application?
