i have problems with java-swing based applications (a lightweight java
gui extension). All swing based application are not able to be displayed
well in the vncviewer. Neither on my Linux system nor on MS-based
systems.
The whole inner frame of the application is displayed solid black and
Xvnc doesn't seem to like the -passwd arg. is there another way to
change the dir that vnc uses to get its settings. I have tried editing
the vncserver script but to no avail. Without changing the vncserver
script vnc makes a .vnc settings folder on the / dir. any ideas? (I

We are trying to set up VNC for the first time. We have two
W2000Prof. PC's but have a problem:
a) I accomplished the connection to the server OK.
b) I got the password screen;
c) I enter the password but get a "Connection Closed" message.
d) I read the FAQ but there is nothing similar.
I think you're right about older clients connecting to newer servers -- it'd
be okay to just require a newer client version. I *would* prefer that the

should be backward compatible, ie a 3.0 client should be able to
authenticate to a 5.0 server, as long as the 5.0 server allows it.

All you need to do is open up the ports for VNC in the port forwarding
section. Say your session number is 50. You would open up port 5950 and have
that forwarded to the pc running VNC. That's using vncviewer. I think if you
want to connect using a browser you would have to open up 5850.
