You do not need the ":0" after the PC name in the Viewer dialog -- at least
that's why my current testing shows.

JC Mickan:
This may be a case of the blind leading the blind. I was new to VNC only five
days ago, so I'm no expert. I did, however, manage to get VNC working after
much trial and error and some help from people on this newsgroup.
If the PCs are on a network, I think it will be very easy. Ins
The first step is to read the manuals on the VNC web site.

The issue is how to install "remotely" as a service. So you don't have to
visit the machine in person.
It's possible by:
1) Copying the correct files (You only need three and can be placed anyware
- even the Omnithread.dll) to the remote computer
2) Adding the registry key to the remote computer
I'm having trouble getting my installation of vnc to initialise

You can view the Service name with the Netsvc utility "netsvc /list

Or you can use the display name when inserting in quotes as net start
"service name".

To run winvnc as a service on NT (someone please fill in the
gaps)
1) You must first of course do an install of vnc
2) then you must install the service (I found this in a couple of different
flavors from the start menu)
3) and start the service running.
4) which will resul
Net strat will work locally but not remotely. You will need the "Netsvc"
utility off the Resource kit to remotely manage services.
But Mauro is right, you will sometimes need to reboot or log out to get the
service to start.

Exactly because its like the old 8.3 limit imposed on file names under DOS,
the services panel has the display name for the service, which maps to the
service name.
It works for me.

Dear John,
Thanks a lot for your comments! and I think I should explain my case in more

I'm not sure I completely follow what you mean, but let me see if I can
break it down.
Win98se is your "server" computer using ICS to give internet access to your
2 other computers.
VNC is installed on the Win98se machine and you can't connect to it from the
outside?
