I have the same issue here. Seems to be a Vista issue?? I have been able to connect between two XP machines with no problems. With Vista machine, I can only connect from the Vista desktop, but not from XP to Vista. I get the "No password configured for VNC auth" when I try to connect from XP

Installing Real VNC to Ubuntu

Hi list, I use the free edition on my home network and am familiar with installing and using in Windows. I have a Ubuntu machine that I would like to use vnc with in the same way. Is this possible? I am very new to Linux / Ubuntu. I tried to install without success, and wondering at this point
