So I have listened you primarily selected, but I selected other things, and my
groups own messages are all over those categories. And I believe my Google
messages are the same way. Which is kind of crazy. And I am running 18.2.

Correct, it does not indicate which is selected, but that does not mean you
can't go to "List" and double tap on it which puts everything back as it was.
