I have seen your request, but I’m unable to give an answer, because I don’t
have a Mac.
Only suggestion I can give is try to start OpenOffice with a lower resolution
and see if
the problem has gone.

You might try downloading LibreOffice (www.libreoffice.org) and see if the
same problem occurs. It's free. I use LO as my primary spreadsheet/word
processor, but occasionally use OOWriter and don't have the problem you
describe. I'm also running IOs 10.13.2, but using OO version 4.1.5.
