You couldn't be more wrong.
With OO 4.1.1 there is no money involved.
What is involved is how I choose to employ my time.
And with me, and apparently a lot of other people, learning the "styles"
silliness is not worthwhile.

I'm with you. The whole "styles" approach is ridiculous.
I still have a great fondness for Word Perfect. The "Reveal Codes"
function gave me total control. Even more so than Micro$loth Word.
Sadly, for all practical purposes, Word Perfect is functionally dead.
OO is a poor second

How much memory available in the machine?
Really need that kind of data to even begin to look at ideas / solutions.

My ISP is a direct feed from hGoogle. I get the "mystery messages at least
every other week from the OO list.
As others have commented with respect to Yahoo, the chances of Google being
off line that often are slim to none, and slim doesn't count.
It is yet another bug in the OO universe
There was nothing improper or rude in Dale's reply.
SPF deserved exactly the mild response Dale provided.
The only rudeness I see is the sophomoric insult about Dale being a high

Rory correctly notes that OO 4.1.1 will open .doc file extensions.
However, there have been issues in some instances with .docx file
extensions.
There are work arounds for the .docx issues, but you should be aware of the
potential for issues with the .docx format.

Understand you are on a MAC.
Please tell us where you obtained the checkbook register form you are
trying to use.
Its hard to try to troubleshoot without knowing what spreadsheet you are
actually working with.
As a courtesy I have sent a copy of this reply to you as well as to the
mailing list.
Google "Spreadsheets tutorial" and see what happens. Its amazing what you
can teach yourself , instead orf expecting everyone to do your research and
spoon feed you.

...and pray tell how would we do that?
Your OO version is on your machine and there is no way to tell what version
you have on your machine without having physical access to your machine.
On my Windows system the icon on the desktop automatically displays the
version I use -- that being 4.1.1.
