Lucy Blake - I upgraded my laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10 about three months ago, just after New Years.
I had no issues. The upgrade went fine. There is a learning curve from Win 8 to Win 10. I did back up all my files (not programs, but files) to an external hard drive as a precaution, but had no file issues. I recommend that if you do upgrade that you back up all your files to an external hard drive before proceeding just in case something goes wrong. Better safe than sorry.
