have the problem. Can you find your files in the system file manager? Do
you know where you put them at the time you created them in

Try the help menu. Some of the best help content I've ever used.
A very important feature of OpenOffice is that it is not a Microsoft
product and does not attempt to work like MS products. It's an
entirely different mind-set though similar enough that you can usually
figure out how to get stuff

your new copy from www.openoffice.org or www.openoffice.apache.org. There
are other places that will say it's free but they embed malware and
advertisements. Other sites even try to sell it.

Not sure from your description what you're trying to do but following may
work:
Select a cell with the background you want. "Paste Special" -> "Format"
where you want the background color. Your background will then be the same

I can't believe the Java/Help problem has not been dealt with. In my
opinion the side panel was a waste of time since it's all on the tool bars
already but the Help not working is a major irritation
