I have just upgraded to F12. Basically, no problems except when I go through
the gnome shutdown process, F12 seems to go into a suspended state, rather
than shut-down (green power LED and fan stays on). From this state I can
press the "power" button and it shuts down. This does not seem to damage
Yup, those are the symptoms. Your's and my computer are probably working
just fine. Maybe we'll get an update sooner or later. Meanwhile, no harm
done (so far).
Thanks for the reply,

I have reinstalled xsane. Everything but the image save function works
fine. xsane produces a good image but when I try to save it, the resulting
image is compressed laterally with the remaining width blacked out. This is
repeatable and I have seen references to the problem in the various forums,
Yup, that did it. Thanks. I will try to find out what happened and post
that as well. But for now, we're back in business via GIMP!

I am trying to generate printable output by using
man k lpr > lprman.txt
This works but the output contains unwanted characters generated by text
which was "bold" in the original output. How can I prevent these confusing
characters from being generated?
Thanks.

We all make mistakes and if this can be called a mistake, it is surely a
